Almost a month after the Gaza Solidarity Encampment was set up in Columbia University on 17 April, a slew of UK universities have followed suit. Most of these encampments were erected as part of the global day of action for Palestine on May Day, joining numerous solidarity actions such as Workers for a Free Palestine’s blockades of the UK Trade Department in London and BAE Systems’ arms factories in Scotland, Wales and Lancashire.
